Running the 2022 Westonbirt 10K
With the completion of the Westonbirt 10K on 12 May, we caught up with Julia, our Westonbirt Runner, to find out how it went…
How did the 10K run go?
The 10k went really well. I was really nervous/excited throughout the day; it was a long wait until 7pm. However, as soon as I started, I got a good pace going and the weather was perfect conditions.
What was the atmosphere like during the event?
A really positive vibe, lots of cheering and support.
What was the most memorable moment?
Most likely the end! Seeing friends that had already finished and receiving my medal!
How did the running gear, kindly gifted by Runners Need, help with the run?
The trainers were super comfy and gave enough grip for the trekky parts of the run. They are honestly the best trainers I have had so again I would definitely recommend a gait analysis. The lightweight t-shirt kept me cool in the evening temperatures and I love the colour!!
Would you recommend Runners Need for running equipment?
Absolutely, I even purchased some running shorts from Cotswold Outdoor/Runners Need that had a pocket on the side so I could keep my car key and phone on me.
As a member I used my membership discount with Runners Need/Cotswold Outdoor and saved an amazing 15%! It’s so easy to take advantage of, either by showing your membership card in-store or using the special online code (which can be found either in the latest eNews or Westonbirt Magazine).
How did your appeal go?
I am so grateful for everyone who supported me. Even if they were not direct donations, I had so many shared social posts, good luck wishes and general interest in my training. With your support I raised an incredible £330 which will go towards ensuring Westonbirt Arboretum remains a safe, accessible green space for you and others to enjoy today, tomorrow and for generations to come.
Are you setting your sights on any more challenges?
Yes….. I will continue with my lovely training pals at PD fitness Malmesbury and hopefully (a lot of optimism here) by the end of the year I’ll have completed a half marathon.
Do you have any advice for people who are considering getting into running or taking up a sports challenge?
Consistency is key! Joining a running club last year has improved my fitness & wellbeing levels immensely. It did take me ages to join, just one day I made the step to go for just one session and I haven’t looked back. Running in a club you get huge support and encouragement. Also, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. You need to enjoy the benefits of the sport for it to be sustainable.
Good luck to anybody who has personal goals this year. A lot is being in the right mind. Visualise the end result you want to achieve and keep going!
Once again a huge congratulations to Julia for completing the 10K and thanks for being our 2022 Westonbirt Runner! Everyone’s support for Julia and her appeal has been amazing - thank you so much.
