Meet the 2024 runners raising money for Westonbirt Arboretum
On 23 May hundreds of people will be running 10K through the picturesque avenues of the Old Arboretum and into the peace and quiet of the ancient Silk Wood.
A few of those runners are raising money for the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum. Each runner is hoping to raise £250 for The Friends which will help us continue our charitable work to protect and conserve the arboretum for future generations.
Meet Lana, Caroline and Tom and see what Westonbirt Arboretum means to them and why they want to give something back…
Meet Lana – running is a new focus
“Westonbirt Arboretum has always been my happy place since I was a child. I recently lost my partner to cancer and running will give me a new focus. The arboretum is somewhere we used to go together, and I want to return to the arboretum to make more happy memories there.”
Meet Cal – sharing the importance of trees
“Recently I’ve grown fascinated by the life of trees. How they communicate, how they provide a home to so many species even after they die. And of course, how much we as humans depend on them to survive. They are doing vital work and need our support to continue doing it.”
Meet Tom – protecting the arboretum for future generations
“My wife and I have made many happy memories with our two young boys, who associate a trip to Westonbirt Arboretum with fun and adventure. I feel blessed to have the this on my doorstep and I want to help preserve and improve it for future generations to enjoy. The site always feels spacious and relaxing and is a welcome respite from busy life. The arboretum plays an incredible role in advocating for nature and educating young people, and I think it's vital that it continues to thrive.”
