Celebrating the work The Friends have supported through the years
We all know Westonbirt Arboretum is a stunning collection of over 2,500 tree species located in the Cotswolds. But did you know that behind this natural beauty lies a dedicated group of passionate individuals? The Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum is a registered charity which was established in 1985 by a small group of volunteers who were committed to supporting the conservation and public interaction at the arboretum.
We’ve now grown as a charity to 19 charity employees with almost 40,000 supporters. Our mission is to share this remarkable tree collection with the world and encourage a connection with our natural environment. This is accomplished through funding various projects, from seed-collecting trips and mobility scooters to the multi-million pound Westonbirt Project.
To celebrate the awe-inspiring work and positive impact our supporters have helped achieve over our 37-year history, we’re showcasing a timeline of highlights in the Great Oak Hall. As you follow our timeline on your next visit, you will discover many aspects of Westonbirt Arboretum's development and success are attributed to the love and support of our members, who we call Friends. Additionally, individual donors, trusts, and foundations have also recognised the wonder and international importance of the arboretum and have contributed to our efforts to protect and preserve it for future generations.
We are proud of our role in supporting Westonbirt Arboretum to be a world-class destination for visitors to appreciate the beauty of trees, experience nature, and learn about the importance of conservation. If you’re not a member already, we invite you to join us in supporting our cause and becoming a Friend of Westonbirt Arboretum. Together, we can continue to make a positive impact on our natural environment and preserve this national treasure for generations to come.
