About Westonbirt

Westonbirt Arboretum is a world-renowned tree collection with over 15,000 trees and shrubs from around the world. It is home to several national collections including the National Collection of Maple species, the National Collection of Lime, and the National Collection of Walnut - plus more. Dotted throughout the arboretum are beautiful wooden structures including the much-loved Great Oak Hall. Located in Gloucestershire, England, the arboretum was founded in 1829 by Robert Stayner Holford, a wealthy landowner with a passion for plants. Holford planted trees and shrubs from around the world at Westonbirt, and the arboretum quickly became a popular destination for visitors.

Westonbirt Arboretum is also a popular destination for events. It hosts a variety of concerts, festivals, and workshops throughout the year.

As Westonbirt’s charity, the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum supports Westonbirt, The National Arboretum in its mission by raising funds through membership fees, and donations. We play an essential role in supporting Westonbirt Arboretum as supporter funding through us helps to pay for the arboretum's conservation work, education programmes, and improve access.
